Learning Engineering Internship Opportunity
Computational Thinking Alliance is looking for an intern to join a summer research program to analyze a large set of anonymized data of 10,000 9th, 10th and 11th graders activities to learn computational thinking, algorithmic thinking, system thinking, and design thinking. This data has been gathered on Polyup. If you’re passionate to join a global movement to democratize personalized math, computer science, STEM, and AI education for a brighter tomorrow.
Computational Thinking Alliance
The Computational Thinking Alliance (CTA) is dedicated to expanding the notion of computational thinking from a math and computer science perspective, to one useful for all subjects. CTA is an alliance of nonprofit and for-profit professional development organizations, digital platform providers, and educational institutions with a common goal: to institute computational thinking as an important educational asset in schools across the world through weekly challenges for classrooms.
As part of this mission, CTA coordinates and collaborates on an open anonymized “learning engineering” platform to
Accelerate progress in the science of computational thinking learning;
Create a continuous improvement infrastructure based on design-based research in K-12 STEAM learning by combining rapid-cycle evaluation, feedback loops, and machine learning at scale; and
Attract more educational institutions and computer scientists to the field of learning engineering.
Polyup
Polyup is an EdTech company in Silicon Valley spun out of Stanford whose mission is to provide equitable access to quality math and computational thinking education globally. It does so through its open, online immersive 3D platform where students use their imagination to build 3D dynamic simulations with math in a game-like environment. We built this platform to bring the 4th Industrial Revolution skills of computational thinking, algorithmic thinking, system thinking, and design thinking to K-12 students around the world.
Today, over 1 million activities have been authored and have been played for more than 25 million times by more than 400K students in more than 70 countries. Organizations like Stanford’s youcubed have used Polyup to develop hundreds of activities for K-12 students. Polyup has a global team that works every day incorporating feedback from users to refine the educational content available on the platform.
The recent global health crisis forced schools to close their doors, leaving families and the entire educational system scrambling for effective solutions to transfer student learning online. Some institutions were better prepared than others, which exacerbated the educational gap between different socioeconomic groups. We believe that we are inventing and building the mechanisms to create learning opportunities and make online education equitable.
